Iluzija lepote...
i suživot umora i elegancije...

The illusion of beauty...
and a fine line that separates madness from sanity
the panic behind the laughter...
and the coexistence of fatigue and elegance…

Repertoar trupe obuhvataju i veliki naslovi Matsa Eka, Jiržija Kilijana, Žan-Kristofa Majoa i Kristofera Vildona, zajedno sa radovima mladih stvaralaca, među kojima i kanađanina Pitera Kvanca.

A creative and repertory company, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal performs works that reflect the diverse trends of contemporary dance today. Founded by Ludmilla Chiriaeff in 1957, Les Grands Ballets has brought audiences a vast panorama of dance, from the classics to the major works of the 20th century. Under the direction of Fernand Nault, Brian Macdonald and Lawrence Rhodes, the institution has fostered the development of talented artists from Québec and Canada who are now well known, among them James Kudelka, Édouard Lock and Ginette Laurin. Since 2000, the company has taken a new turn under the inspired direction of Gradimir Pankov, who brings a lifetime of international experience to the table. Today, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal sets itself apart by premiering fresh choreographic works from the four corners of the globe. The company has also enriched its repertoire with major commissions signed by Kim Brandstrup, Shawn Hounsell, Adam Hougland, Stijn Celis, Didy Veldman, Kader Belarbi, Mauro Bigonzetti, Ohad Naharin and Shen Wei. As well, its repertoire includes major acquisitions by reputed artists such as Mats Ek, Jiří Kylián, Jean-Christophe Maillot and Christopher Wheeldon, along with works by young creators, including Canadian Peter Quanz. Gradimir Pankov’s national choreographic contest, launched in 2008, has allowed Les Grands Ballets to showcase the work of emerging Canadian choreographers. Each season, Les Grands Ballets invites prestigious international companies to perform as part of its program. The list includes Houston Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Cullberg Ballet, Compañía Nacional de Danza from Madrid, Warsaw Ballet, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre (Taiwan), Shen Wei Dance Arts (New York City), Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon, Dutch National Ballet and Eifman Ballet from St-Petersburg. A veritable incubator of new talent, the company truly embodies creativity and daring. It offers a different vision of the world through dance, a vision that, now more than ever, is emotional, theatrical and thrilling.

Minus jedan je jednostavno igra u svom ubistvenom, očaravajućem, najboljem izdanju. I u velikom je plusu, uprkos svom naslovu.
Minus one was simply dance at its drop-dead, dazzling best. And it had a plus, despite the title.”

... neočekivano i potpuno šarmantno.
… unexpected and thoroughly charming.

... najzavodljiviji / najzabavniji / najdirljiviji / najposvećeniji program koji sam video da trupa izvodi tokom 50 godina svoje istorije.“
… the most, seductively engaging / entertaining / touching / committing program I’ve seen the company deliver in its nearly 50 years.”

The company used classical technique with the mixing of multiple artistic influences to produce a show that was modern yet appealed to those who enjoy a more traditional show. Classical ballet lovers, Fosse fans and “Cirque du Soleil” enthusiasts would have enjoyed the multifaceted performance… The only thing one could ask for is another show.

The works are in deed so energised and so physically alluring, that one can’t help but enjoy them. Les Grands Ballets is without doubt a quality company, abundantly energetic and well-rehearsed… Their collective work also paid excellent dividends in the celebrated chair dance… delivered here with detonating power and to near perfection.”
